Contemporary Equestrian Art, Grey Horse, Painting, Circus

'Circus'
Looks suitably festive. Perhaps I should have named it 'Snow Queen'.

Well, things are hectic in the studio at the moment. This time of year is always a little crazy with Christmas commissions and presents being finished and sent off. I can't post photographs of any of the commission until after Christmas ss I don't want to ruin any surprises, but i'll post them all up in the New Year.

Talking of the New Year - things are looking very exciting. I've decided to concentrate on my gallery work and to reduce the number of commissions that I undertake. I will keep you updated regularly too (New Year business resolution number 1!).

'Eddie'
(this isn't the final image and a few things did change before the end of the painting but i can't find my photos of the final image...)

Happy summer holidays!! Sorry - wishful thinking.
If you are having a summer like we are in Scotland then it's more like a slightly warm winter holiday.

Anyway, the good thing, for me, about having dreadful weather is that I am more than happy to work away in my studio without feeling miserable about missing those special and elusive Scottish summer days.

So, in the studio at the moment I am working away on quite a few commissions. Two yellow Labs, a Jack Russel, two gorgeous horses, two beautiful cobs, a Highland cow, an Owl (!), a Westie and a Scottie and the others I can't mention in case I give away the surprise.Oh, and I'm getting ready for my stall at  Hopetoun Horse Trials (oh rain, please stop!) on the 27th - 29th of July and an exhibition in Biggar at the Corn Exchange Gallery in August.

There's more news to come in August, but this'll do for now, in case I start panicking!

If you are near Edinburgh on the last weekend in July do stop by at Hopetoun Horse Trials. It's a fairly new event but has had some of the best reviews I've seen for quite a while!

Thanks!

Balcarres International Horse Trials

Balcarres International Horse Trials - here I come!

Contemporary Equestrian Art, Equestrian artist, Freisian Horse

As ever, things are completely hectic at the moment, what with getting organised for Balcarres and working on a number of commissions. I may end up working on commissions while I'm at my stall at Balcarres. Might be interesting for visitors if nothing else!

I'm a little nervous about the whole thing as I'm not exactly sure what to expect - will I have enough stock, will I have too much? Will people like my art work? I've had a wee look at others who are exhibiting at Balcarres and although there are other artists I'm quite confident that my work is completely different. Hopefully it'll go down well.

Okay, must get back to mounting my prints. If you make it along do stop by for a wee look :)

My Girl (plus friend!)

It's a little bit mad here at the studio just now. I'm putting the finishing touches to some new acrylic paintings for http://www.3harbours.co.uk/ which starts on Friday night at http://www.seashoregallery.co.uk/. Nothing like last minute!
This Arts Festival is on for 9 days. So plenty time to take in some art whilst being awed by the surrounding villages. Have you ever been to Preston Pans, Cockenzie and Port Seton? They are stunning little harbour villages and they will be filled with art for the whole of the festival.
You can catch my work in The Seashore Gallery and also at my Exhibition in Cockenzie Methodist Church - opposite the power station.

So, as soon as 3 Harbours finishes I'm straight into getting organised for Balcarres Horse Trials which takes place on the 14th - 17th of June.
Balcarres Estate is is situated in the heart of the East Neuk of Fife in Colinsburgh.

I'll have even more new paintings on sale here. Limited edition prints and art cards will be available too. If you are considering a commission, for yourself or someone else, come along and have a chat. I'll have examples of previous commissions on show to give you an idea of what I can do. In the mean time why not have a look at my commissions page here:
or at my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MathersArt

Thank you!

Open Studios Event and some other news

This weekend I have opened my studio to the public as part of Open Studios North Fife

running galloping horse equestrian art

My studio is open 10am to 6pm tomorrow too. Some studios are open during the following weekend too and although I wasn't originally going to do the second weekend, I've been asked by visitors if they could come along next week. So...watch this space. I think I might just stay open all week. I'll be working away in the studio anyway so if nothing else, it's a good excuse to keep everything tidy for another week!
I'll let you all know before Tuesday for definite. However, if you would ever like to pay an impromptu visit just call me (and give me some warning to tidy up!).

Thanks to everyone who has made it along, and to everyone who is planning on coming along tomorrow. You're in luck - the Bakehouse is still providing delicious cakes to whet your appetite... if i can restrain myself from munching them all in the mean time.

Now for some news: Over the next two months I am to be exhibiting at The 3 Harbours Festival in Cockenzie, East Lothian and also in the Seashore Gallery during the 2nd to the 10th of June.
From 14th - 17th June I am very excited to be exhibiting at Balcarres International Horse Trials.

There's more news for July but I'm going to wait for confirmation before I jinx anything.

What Does Art Mean To You?

I'm feeling very inspired today. I've been considering what art means to me and why I feel the need to create it and be a part of it.

I want to create art that I would want to hang on my walls. Art that keeps me wanting to look at it time and time again. Art that makes my heart take a leap or makes me catch my breath.... this is what I'm striving for. When I'm working on a painting I'll make a mark and my heart will speed up or I'll get butterflies in my stomach. I'll get excited about that tiny mark - if only I could make every mark that amazing..... Does this make any sense? It's like a mini high every time something 'clicks'. Art is a drug?

Today I was planning on doing observation drawings of a stunning horse called Bing. He is quite a magnificent creature and I was to draw him while he was being schooled. However, the heavens have opened and I'm not convinced and Arc could with stand this, never mind my sketchbook. But we'll see. I do live in Scotland after all and everyone knows we can have four seasons in a day here. Here's hoping the sun comes out. Or the rain stops at least.

Only 11 days to go until the Open Studios event! Yikes!

Last few days to see exhibition

My exhibition at 'Maisie and Mac' in Cupar ends this weekend.

If you are in Fife this weekend I would definitely recommend nipping in to the gallery. There is so much to see (and buy) I'm scared to go in on my own in case I spend all my money.
But, seriously, there's so much more to see than just the art on the walls.

Have a wee look at the website, if you need a wee bit more convincing - http://www.maisieandmac.com/

Last day for my '50 Days' series

'Wild at Heart''
Charcoal
15 x 23.5"
£50

The money from this drawing is being donated to Maggie's Centre http://www.maggiescentres.org/donate/donate1.html

Today is the last day that the drawings from my '50 drawings in 50 Days' series will be available to purchase. They will still be available as prints and cards but the originals will no longer be for sale. The project was very useful and informative and I learnt a lot about commitment, charcoal and even marketing. However, it is time to move on with new projects and so I am laying my first project to bed.
Thank you to everyone who supported me during this project - I hope you'll join me for the next one. I'm still working on the details, but it will be paintings this time - though I'm not sure one a day is possible! We'll see though. It would definitely be a massive challenge!

The times they are a' changing

After much thought and advice I have decided to separate my commission work from my 'gallery' work. By this I mean that I will use my website - www.mathersart.com to showcase my 'Original' (non-commissioned work) and this blog will concentrate on my commissioned work.

I will include some of my original work in the posts here but for regular and detailed info please keep an eye on my website - www.mathersart.com

I will continue to have my facebook pages too - Commissions and Originals

Thanks,

Lindsay x

6 Days to go - Movement Study II'

Movement Study II
16 x 23"
Charcoal,

For today's featured drawing I have chosen 'Movement study II'. Although this drawing is somewhat unusual in its composition, I feel that it really shows the energy and tension of horses. I hope you like it :)

Today's Featured Drawing - 7 Days To Go!

"Highland II'
15 x 23"
Charcoal

There are only seven more days left to purchase a drawing, or two, from my '50 Days' series. Today's featured drawing is called 'Highland II' and I like to think it shows off the Highlands characteristics - clever eye, long beautiful mane, sturdy but gentle mannerisms. What can I say - I love Highlands!

9 days to go...

"My Girl"
Charcoal
16.5 x 23"
£40

Today's drawing was going to be 'Scratching Post' but it sold before I could post it up! So, instead, today's drawing is "My Girl". She's one of my favourites, but them I am biased! :)
If you would like to see the others in the '50 days ' collection, just scroll down this page, or you can view them all on one page via facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150359866262732.363404.239356577731&type=3

10 Days to go!

'Poise'
Graphite
11.5 x 16.5"

Today's '50 Days' featured drawing is 'Poise'. This drawing is of a chestnut mare who was competing at last years Fife Show. I chose graphite for this drawing as i like the way it looks energetic and kind of messy, which I think helps show the tension in the horse.

Only 11 days left to purchase a '50 Days' Drawing

Charcoal drawing of a donkey

'Donkey!'
11.5 x 16.5"
SOLD

There are only a few days (well, there's 11 to be precise) remaining to grab yourself a piece of original art work, from my '50 Drawings in 50 Days' series.

Each day I will feature one or two drawings that are still available to buy.

Today's featured drawing is called 'Donkey!'. 'Donkey' was inspired by a field full of donkeys near my cottage that I pass by every other day. The gorgeous donkeys attract so much attention from passers by, they really are local celebrities. My husband took to the one above and spent the whole time scratching the donkeys head while I was gathering my reference photos!

If you would like to the others in the series please
just scroll down through the drawings below.

The Small Print:
Each art work is individual. The sizes and media will vary but I will note this in the description of each image that I post.

All works are sold unmounted and unframed.

Works are sold on a first come first served basis.Very occasionally if I am not quick enough in updating my stock level a work may become sold twice. If this happens I will refund the payment immediately. I make every effort to ensure this shouldn't happen.

Your Testimonials, Please!

Hello and welcome back!

I've not been around recently long enough to update my blog. However, I promise I have not been slacking! I'm working on some very interesting commissions at the moment and also working through the courses on offer at the Business Gateway and the Cultural Enterprise.

The courses are brilliant and very motivational. I'm even, slowly, getting to grips with networking! There were times when I never thought I would be able to say that. I am naturally quite shy (although some people may not believe that statement :) ) and I do find it hard talking about myself. But, I have enough conviction in my artwork to talk about that, so I am getting there.

I am currently working on my marketing plan and a few ideas have been suggested. Such as including testimonials in my advertising and website. If any of my customers/ recipients of my work would like to contribute a testimonial please email me. I will, if you agree, include your name, town and comment.
Please email me at mathersart@gmail.com.

Thank you.

p.s. finished commissions will be posted shortly.
