About Me

charcoal drawing equestrian art, charcoal horse drawing, equine art scotland UK

Before studying for my BA (Hons) I studied Graphic design Illustration at Dundee College.

I graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone college of art, Dundee with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2003, Specialising in drawing and painting.

In 2006 I received an award from Dundee Visual Artists Award (DVAA) to produce new and experimental works. This was a great opportunity which allowed me to take time out of my 'normal' job and dedicate some time to experimenting with different materials. I became really interested in mark making - in that seemingly random marks could show movement and energy. This has been vital in my work ever since.

In 2007 I relocated my studio from Dundee to Fife where I have, mostly, been based since.

In 2017 I started work on my new, purpose built art studio.

Throughout the year I attend a number of Equestrian events where I sell originals and limited edition prints. Have a look here for upcoming events. I also sell my work through galleries and open studio events.

I find the equine form an endlessly fascinating and inspiring subject to paint. Anatomy has always intrigued me and I relish the challenge of drawing unusual angles. I want my drawings and paintings to have a life of their own and to portray the energy and grace of the equine subject.
Horses are not the only subject in my work - life drawing is, and always will be my first love.

But, the horse is my muse.
